In 2014, the retailer signed a purchase agreement for a site in Brooklyn, but the deal ultimately stalled due to concerns about wetlands and a protracted review by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Later, IKEA considered the site of the failed Bridgeview Crossing shopping center in Garfield Heights, but those plans were also abandoned in 2018.
Despite these setbacks, IKEA’s determination to enter the Northeast Ohio market persisted. The retailer’s decision to open a small-format store at Crocker Park is a testament to its commitment to the region and its strategic planning efforts.
